GMO vs Non-GMO: What’s the Difference?

“If we are what we eat, with all the genetically modified and imitation foods we now eat, what the heck are we?” – Anonymous

That’s a good question, right there! On this week’s video, we’ll talk about GMO vs Non-GMO.  We’ll make a choice but no judgment and we’ll address the issues.

Before we dive in, let’s first try to understand what GMO means. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines it as follows:

GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms and it can be defined as organisms (i.e. plants, animals or microorganisms) in which the genetic material (DNA) has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally by mating and/or natural recombination. The technology is often called “modern biotechnology” or “gene technology”, sometimes also “recombinant DNA technology” or “genetic engineering”. It allows selected individual genes to be transferred from one organism into another, also between nonrelated species. Foods produced from or using GM organisms are often referred to as GM foods or Genetically Modified foods.

So what does this mean for us consumers? Are GMO foods safe? Are we better off with Non-GMO products? Is this a fight between good and evil? Is there even a difference? Are there things you need to be keen about should you choose to go natural? Watch the video now and find out.
